We did 24 screen-free hours each week for the first half of the year. We’re getting back in that rhythm starting again in January with the intention of keeping it all year this time 😄
I love so much of your list! I decluttered hard core in 2019 and pretty much spent the last 3 years wishing I would have stayed on top of it. Minimalish is my style, when I’m intentional anyway and it brings me so much peace!
Alllsssooo I love Alex’s other two cookbooks and feel like I need that one now! 😂
I literally came to find this thread to tell you I picked up Dinner Tonight from Target today and I’m mad I waited so long! Do you have any favorites you’ve tried so far Ruth?!
Ah! Love it! I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t tried any recipes yet because I’ve still be cooking from her other cookbooks (the cheeseburger meatballs!) but the tikka masala lentils are on the menu tonight and chicken piccata meatballs for tomorrow. Let me know what recipes you try!
I love so many of these, and just added Happier Hour to my TBR list. We have a goal of once a month out of the house dates for 2024, I find your twice a month rhythm inspiring!
one of our dates every month is "marriage matters" at church where they have childcare, provide dinner, *and* feed your kids, so that definitely makes it easier 😉
Great list, Ruth! Way to prioritize date nights! I’m doing a no-spend January for the...third? fourth? year in a row. It’s such a great way to start the new year. I desperately need some accountability on the decluttering front.
Also doing no new things January (minus a birthday gift for Presley 💞) -- and I love what you said about needing to be able to quickly reset and get back to baseline. We are still recovering from the chaos of December and I am feeling the weight of this EVERY DAY. Tidying up the house takes forever because there is so! Much! Stuff! Everywhere!
I’m getting off IG for all of January and have been thinking of making a list of 31 areas in my house I’d like to declutter ... all the way down to single drawers so I can break up the overwhelm. TBD if I can actually do it but this post may have sent me over the edge 😜
Just put happier hour on my library holds list! Love your thoughts around an heirloom home, and I’m planning on doing some version of a No New Things January too! Also love the color for a word of the year!
Requesting Happier Hour at the library right now.
Also, I love your word for 2024!
thanks, Callie! xo

I mean, you might need it 😂—I just love all her cookbooks so much. Minimalism really is such an ongoing process!

Ohhh I saw those meatballs and I’m very excited to make them! Her skillet chicken piccata from defined dish is one of my favorite meals!
LOVE the idea of an Heirloom Home! And you are inspiring me to try a No New Things January!
thank you, friend! and yes, if you try it let me know how it goes!

Agree! such a good start to the new year! I just emailed you my cell, so we can chat about all things decluttering/minimalism (if you want).
